Toronto Port Lands Company


City Council established CreateTOOpens in new window in 2017, which is responsible for managing the City's real estate portfolio, developing City buildings and lands for municipal purposes, and delivering client-focused real estate solutions to City divisions, agencies, and corporations. The members of the CreateTO board also serve on the boards of Build Toronto and the Toronto Port Lands Company.


The Toronto Port Lands Company (TPLC) is the largest land owner in the Port Lands, an extensive regeneration area of 988 acres (400 hectares) located south of Lake Shore Boulevard and the Keating Channel/Don River bounded by the Toronto Inner Harbour to the West, Ashbridges Bay to the east and Lake Ontario to the south.

The TPLC is a self-financing municipal corporation wholly-owned by the City of Toronto. Through its development, leasing, brownfield reclamation and land management activities, TPLC finances its own operations, funds other operations and delivers a financial dividend back to the City.

Board Responsibilities

TPLC's mandate includes the provision, operation and improvement of sites, buildings and facilities, and the making of grants or loans to any person for the carrying on of promotional activities, all in relation to the establishment and carrying on of industries and of industrial operations and related uses; the sale of sites, buildings and facilities; and the ability to share profits and pay dividends to the City.

Term of Office

The term of office for public members is two years, and members serve until their successors are appointed.

Composition

Following City Council's creation of the Toronto Realty Agency - now CreateTO - in May 2017, effective January 1, 2018, the members of the CreateTO Board have also been cross-appointed to the Toronto Port Lands Company Board.
