Lived Experience Advisory Group
The Lived Experience Advisory Group (LEAG) is a group of Toronto residents with lived experience of poverty. Members contribute their experience and expertise to the effective development, implementation, and monitoring of the City of Toronto's Poverty Reduction Strategy.
Responsibilities
Advocacy
- Provide insight and feedback on City of Toronto policies, programs and services
- Improve access to social services across the City of Toronto
- Educate and inform City staff about the realities of poverty in Toronto and the diversity of experience of those struggling with it.
- Share information about the Poverty Reduction Strategy and the Lived Experience Advisory Group with City Divisions, the private sector, community agencies and residents
- Act as a conduit between communities and the City on poverty reduction related activities
- Participate in the monitoring of the Poverty Reduction Strategy actions

Term of office
The term of office for members is a maximum of three years.
Qualifications
- An interest in working on the priorities of the LEAG and action identified in the Poverty Reductions Strategy
- Ability to work with diverse groups, and as part of a team
- Volunteer and advocacy experience an asset
Time Commitment and Meetings
- Two day orientation session, March 2020 (full-day)
- Two day capacity building session, April 2020 (full-day)
- Monthly meetings (3 hours long, day and time to be determined)
- Attend and/or participate in local community meetings and activities
- Advisory group members may be expected to participate in smaller working groups as necessary, with variable expected time commitments up to 10 hours per month
Advisory Group members will participate in the following activities:
Remuneration
Membership is voluntary. Members will be compensated for their time. All participants will be provided with $50 for each advisory group meeting and half day PRS activities. For full-day activities such as the orientation and training days, members will receive $100.
