Metro Toronto Convention Centre

The Metropolitan Toronto Convention Centre Corporation (MTCC) is a government business enterprise of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Province of Ontario. It is incorporated as a corporation without share capital pursuant to the Metropolitan Toronto Convention Centre Corporation ActOpens in new window. The Corporation is also a Crown agency under this same Act.

MTCC operates a facility for conventions, trade shows, consumer shows, corporate, and food and beverage events. A key objective of MTCC is to provide a modern, international meeting and conference facility that contributes economically to the City of Toronto and Province of Ontario.

Board responsibilities

The board is responsible for:

  • directing and supervising the management of the Corporation within the policies approved by the Minister of Tourism
  • ensuring that management of the Convention Centre adequately carries out its mandate for operating the facility in a manner that will promote the tourist industry in the Province of Ontario and in the city of Toronto

Term of office

The term of office for the public members appointed by City Council is three years. Members continue to serve until their successors are appointed.

Composition

The board consists of not fewer than 7 and not more than 13 members:

Currently, the City's 3 members on the board include:

  • 2 Toronto residents
  • the President and Chief Executive Officer of Destination Toronto

Qualifications

In addition to the general eligibility requirements set out in the Public Appointments Policy, members should possess:

  • interest in and a broad knowledge of the hospitality industry
  • sound management background in finance, marketing, entertainment, food service, facilities operation or communications
  • ability to devote time required for board meetings and for pre-meeting study and review of agenda and supporting material

Meetings

The board generally meets bi-monthly. Special meetings and board committee meetings may be convened as required.

Remuneration

Any member of the public who is chair of the board shall receive remuneration of $200 per meeting. Other public members shall receive remuneration of $125 per meeting.
