Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council:

1. Directed the General Manager, Transportation Services, in consultation with the Toronto Transit Commission, to report back to the Toronto and East York Community Council in the first quarter of 2027 with recommendations on opportunities to provide seating at streetcar stops across Ward 11, prioritizing locations where the average daytime wait for the next streetcar is more than six minutes.

Summary

More than half the residents of Ward 11 do not have private motor vehicles and depend on active transportation and public transit. This includes a high concentration of seniors. The Ward Councillor has worked with the TTC to increase the number of benches at subway stations in the Ward and other locations. However, there is a serious lack of seating where people await streetcar service in Ward 11.
