Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council:

1. Directed the General Manager, Transportation Services, to report back to the first meeting of the Toronto and East York Community Council in 2027 with recommendations on pedestrian safety improvements at the intersections of St. George Street at Bernard Avenue and Kendal Avenue at Walmer Road

Origin

(July 6, 2026) Letter from Councillor Dianne Saxe

Summary

There are two wide, non-standard, offset intersections in the Annex that create chronic dangers for pedestrians: St. George Street at Bernard Avenue, and Kendal Avenue at Walmer Road. Both are heavily used, including by many children on the way to school. The Annex Residents Association has requested a study of opportunities to improve pedestrian safety at these intersections, for example, with pedestrian bump outs or similar mechanisms to right size traffic lane width and to encourage drivers to stop at the intersections.
