The Toronto and East York Community Council:

1. Authorized the installation of traffic calming ( four speed humps) on Scadding Avenue, between Princess Street and Hahn Place, generally as shown in Attachment 2 to the letter (June 19, 2026) from Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik.

2. Amended the speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour on Scadding Avenue, between Lower Sherbourne Street and Hahn Place, to be in effect between Hahn Place and the west end of Scadding Avenue.

My office has been working with residents and the St Lawrence Neighbourhood Association around road safety in their neighbourhood. We have heard from local residents that this neighbourhood and the surrounding area experiences a high volume of pedestrian traffic associated with Parliament Square Park, Princess Street Park, David Crombie Park (Playground and Basketball Court). This neighborhood also has a school, daycare, community centre and old age building. Motorists are seen speeding on the subject street, and it is used as a cut through to bypass The Esplanade, between Lower Sherbourne Street and Berkeley Street/ Hahn Place. In a residential area like this one, these are concerns I take seriously.

During the investigation, Transportation Services discovered a discrepancy between the by-lawed traffic regulation and the connecting roadways on Scadding Avenue. Recommendation 2 will resolve this inconsistency.

My recommendations are intended to address ongoing residents' concerns regarding traffic safety on Scadding Avenue between Princess Street and Hahn Place by implementing traffic calming measures, including speed humps and reducing the posted speed limit to 30 kilometers per hour.
