Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council:

Summary

In 2018, Toronto and East York Community Council approved speed humps on Pelham Avenue to extend only from Uxbridge Avenue to Laughton Avenue. For many residents on Pelham Avenue, this decision created a gap that left a large section of the street without he appropriate traffic calming measures.

This remaining block of Pelham Avenue is used frequently by young students heading to Charles-Sauriol Elementary School or by families dropping by Pelham Avenue Playground. I have heard directly from residents that drivers are speeding towards the existing speed humps, highlighting the need for urgent measures.

In response to this issue, my office conducted a neighbourhood survey, and residents voted unanimously in support of speed humps. These measures will help to reduce speeding and improve safety for residents travelling throughout the neighbourhood.
