Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council:

Summary

Concord Avenue, between Bloor Street West and College Street, is located between two major arterial roads and experiences significant volumes of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. This block serves as a key route for people travelling to nearby destinations while also attracting drivers seeking to bypass potential congestion at surrounding intersections.

Residents have consistently raised concerns about excessive vehicle speeds along this stretch of Concord Avenue and the resulting impacts on neighbourhood safety. Many commnuity members have shared experiences of near-collisions and expressed concerns for the safety of all road users, particularly children travelling to and from Dewson Street Junior Public School.

In response to these concerns, my office conducted a neighbourhood survey to gather community feedback on potential traffic calming measures, and the results confirmed support for the installation of speed humps. These measures will help reduce vehicle speeds, discourage cut-through traffic, and improve safety for all.
