Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council:

1. Rescinded the existing maximum one-hour parking regulation in effect from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday, on the north side of Shaftesbury Avenue, between Summerhill Avenue and a point 91.4 metres east of Yonge Street.

Origin

(June 8, 2026) Letter from Councillor Dianne Saxe

Summary

Parking signs were removed from Shaftesbury Avenue years ago to facilitate a TTC “Easier Access” project to add elevators to the Summerhill subway station. Residents have been pressing for restoration of the original signs ever since the TTC relinquished the road and sidewalk space it had occupied for so long. Transportation Services has advised that they cannot restore the original signs until a by-law conflict is resolved by this motion.
