The Scarborough Community Council:

1. Requested the General Manager, Transportation Services, to study the feasibility of implementing safety improvements along Anson Avenue and the surrounding area, including but not limited to speed humps, all-way stop controls, and report back to Scarborough Community Council in the first quarter of 2027.

2. Requested the General Manager, Transportation Services, to review the need for additional signage, speed measurement measures, pavement markings and other appropriate Vision Zero measures, and report back to Scarborough Community Council in the first quarter of 2027.

Safety measures are needed on Anson Avenue and the surrounding area to help ensure the safety of the community, particularly for families, children, students, seniors, pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users travelling near Anson Park Junior Public School. Residents have raised ongoing concerns about speeding, cut-through traffic, traffic volumes, pedestrian safety, parking conditions, and school-area safety, especially during student drop-off and pick-up times when pedestrian activity is higher.

At recent community consultation, organized by my office, residents identified Oakridge Drive as an example of a nearby street where road safety measures, including all-way stop controls and traffic calming interventions, have helped address similar neighbourhood concerns. Following resident feedback, we recommend that City staff explore comparable safety improvements for Anson Avenue, including whether all-way stops, traffic calming measures, or a combination of both would be most appropriate. As part of this review, we also request that staff examine the need for potential all-way stop controls at Anson Avenue and Harewood Avenue, Anson Avenue and Allister Avenue, Anson Avenue and Dorset Road, and Randall Crescent/Dorset Road and Allister Avenue, as well as traffic calming measures on Anson Avenue, including additional signage, speed management measures, pavement markings, and other appropriate Vision Zero measures. This highlights the need for Transportation Services to conduct a comprehensive review and determine the most effective safety improvements for Anson Avenue and the surrounding neighbourhood.
