Community Council Decision
North York Community Council:
1. Directed the General Manager, Transportation Services, to review the collision, fatality and serious injury history along Caledonia Road, between Lawrence Avenue West and Glengrove Avenue, and provide the Councillor with recommendations to make the road safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.
Origin
Summary
My office has received concerns about transportation safety on Caledonia Road, between Castlefield Avenue and Lawrence Avenue West. I request that Community Council direct transportation services to review transportation safety along Caledonia Road and consider the following safety measures:
- Traffic Signals at Caledonia and Glengrove Avenue or other intersections.
- Deploy Crossing Guard at Caledonia and Glengrove Avenue.
- Explore the Provincial mandate to construct Roundabouts on Caledonia Road.
- Explore the Provincial mandate to construct Speed Humps on Caledonia Road from Castlefield Avenue to Lawrence Avenue West.
- Examine all other options available to make Caledonia Road safer given the high truck traffic volume and the high density Lotherton neighbourhood with a high number of children and seniors crossing Caledonia Road to take the TTC and attend Joyce Parkway and Regina Mundi Schools.
- Consider the use of rumble strips to slow down traffic especially near the Crosswalks, given installing Speed Humps on this TTC Route maybe be unsafe.
