Summary

In response to the numerous requests, including a petition, that my office has received regarding potential ways to improve safety on Hendon Avenue, I am submitting the following item, which was prepared by Transportation Services staff to address these concerns.

Residents have reported issues concerning speeding along Hendon Avenue. As part of the Hendon Avenue Environmental Assessment Addendum process, investigations were undertaken to identify pedestrian and road safety mitigation measures. In addition to this investigation, the community has requested to advance the installation of speed humps and reducing the speed limit from 40 kilometres per hour to 30 kilometres per hour. Therefore, I am requesting the installation of four (4) speed humps on Hendon Avenue between Talbot Road and Eldora Avenue.

Further, the intersection of Hendon Avenue and Eldora Avenue functions as a key connection point and desire line for vulnerable road users between the nearby Hendon Park, and residential areas. Residents have reported issues concerning right-of-way designations between northbound and east / westbound drivers. As part of the Hendon Avenue Environmental Assessment Addendum process, investigations were undertaken to identify pedestrian and road safety mitigation measures. The community has requested to advance the installation of an all-way stop control with curb extensions to address these concerns. Therefore, I am requesting the installation of all-way stop control at the intersection of Hendon Avenue and Eldora Avenue.
