City Council Decision
City Council on July 29 and 30, 2026, adopted the following:
1. City Council request the Government of Canada, through the Minister of Transport, to amend the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act to require that all new motor vehicles sold in Canada be equipped with enhanced anti-theft technologies as standard equipment, including improved immobilization systems, vehicle locating technology, stronger encryption, more secure keyless entry systems, advanced authentication technologies, and other vehicle security measures designed to prevent unauthorized access and theft.

This Matter is considered urgent as/because seven thousand, four hundred and twenty-one (7,421) auto thefts occurred across Toronto in 2025 and we need to pursue every auto theft prevention measure possible.
