The Etobicoke York Community Council:

1. Directed the General Manager, Transportation Services, to investigate the feasibility of implementing a left-turn restriction from Jane Street onto Maple Leaf Drive during peak traffic periods, and report back to Etobicoke York Community Council at its meeting on July 7, 2026.

This motion focuses on addressing the increasing infiltration of non-local, cut-through traffic within the Maple Leaf neighbourhood, bounded by Jane Street, Keele Street, Lawrence Avenue West, and Highway 401. A significant volume of drivers are diverting onto local streets—such as Maple Leaf Drive, Falstaff Avenue, and Rustic Road—to bypass congestion on surrounding arterial roads and access regional highways.

City data confirms that Maple Leaf Drive experiences the highest level of non-local traffic, with approximately 10 percent of vehicles during peak periods identified as cut-through traffic. This infiltration has raised ongoing concerns regarding road safety, noise, and the overall livability of the neighbourhood.

This motion seeks to reduce cut-through traffic, improve safety on local streets, and protect the character and livability of the Maple Leaf neighbourhood.
