Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council:

1.  Requested the Executive Director, Environment, Climate and Forestry to work with the Toronto Parking Authority and report back with recommended locations for Electric Vehicle chargers in East York, with a focus on the area near Coxwell Avenue and Mortimer Avenue.

Origin

Summary

Residents have contacted my office requesting the installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers near their homes. Many homes in East York currently lack accessible EV charging options, which presents a barrier as more residents transition to energy-efficient vehicles.

As the demand for sustainable transportation continues to grow across the city, it is important that we provide the necessary infrastructure to support this shift. In particular, the area near Coxwell Avenue and Mortimer Avenue is a high-traffic zone, surrounded by schools, a community centre, and a hospital—making it a strategic location for EV chargers to serve both residents and visitors.
