Summary

This proposed motion is intended to address safety concerns for all road users, particularly children, families, and seniors who live, walk, and travel along Sloley Road. Sloley Road is a key access route for students attending Fairmount Public School, and residents have reported concerns about vehicle speeds and cut-through traffic on this corridor. The surrounding neighborhood is home to many school-aged children and vulnerable road users who rely on safe, comfortable conditions for walking, cycling, and accessing transit. Reducing the speed limit from 40 km/h to 30 km/h is consistent with the City’s Vision Zero road safety objectives and will help calm traffic, reduce the risk and severity of collisions, and create a safer environment for students and community members travelling to and from Fairmount Public School.
