The Confronting Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee:

 

1. Affirmed the Ontario Human Rights Commission's From Impact to Action report and its recommendations.


2.  Recommended that the Economic and Community Development Committee request the Confronting Anti-Black Racism Unit, Social Development to invite the Toronto Police Service to present to the Confronting Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee on the status and timeline of implementation of the Ontario Human Rights Commission recommendations, including:

 

a. completed, ongoing, and pending actions by the implementation team;


b. performance indicators and internal accountability mechanisms; and


c. plans for community engagement and transparency.

 

3.  Requested that the Confronting Anti-Black Racism Unit, Social Development integrate the Ontario Human Rights Commission's From Impact to Action report recommendations into Confronting Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee’s work plan, including:

 

a. strategic alignment with relevant City strategies and equity initiatives;


b. integration into Confronting Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee monitoring and evaluation frameworks; and


c. consideration of provincial and federal commitments related to anti-Black racism.

Dubi Kanengisser, Executive Director, Toronto Police Service Board gave a presentation on Toronto Police Service Board Response to Confronting Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee Motion.

Summary

The Executive Director, Toronto Police Services Board will provide a presentation on their existing action and activities to support Black communities and advance equity through policing in Toronto.

 

The Chief Commissioner, the Acting Executive Director and the Solicitor, Ontario Human Rights Commission, will respond to questions from the Committee on the Ontario Human Rights Commission Impact to Action report, which explored anti-Black racism in the Toronto Police Service.
