TS1.5 - An Overview of Student Nutrition Program

Committee Decision
The City-School Boards Advisory Committee recommends to the Executive Committee that:
1. City Council consider establishing new food nutrition programs for students in marginalized priority neighbourhoods with new provincial funding.
2. City Council request the Provincial Government continue to fund food nutrition programs and to fund newly established food nutrition programs.
3. City Council request the Province of Ontario to increase its financial commitment to Student Nutrition Programs in Toronto at $0.55 per Serving per meal in alignment with the Northern Fruit and Vegetable Alliance allowance in order to honour the rising cost of food in the City of Toronto.
4. City Council request the Federal and Provincial Governments to work with Toronto’s Food Nutrition Program so more children can receive nutritious food at school through a Universal Nutrition Program.
5. City Council request the Government of Canada to fulfill their commitment for a Universal National Nutrition Program and allocate funds to support the program across the nation.
6. City Council request the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, and Federation of Canadian Municipalities to call on the Federal Government to establish and fund a Universal Nutrition Program.

That the City-School Boards Advisory Committee recommend to the Executive Committee that:
1. City Council request the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and Federation of Canadian Municipalities to call on the Federal Government to establish and fund a Universal Nutrition Program.
2. City Council request the Government of Canada to fulfill their commitment for a Universal National Nutrition Program and allocate funds to support the program across the nation.
3. City Council request the Federal and Provincial Governments to work with Toronto’s Food Nutrition Program so more children can receive nutritious food at school through a Universal Nutrition Program.
