Origin
Summary
I am writing to respectfully request the placement of a temporary school crossing guard at the intersection of Oriole Parkway and Gormley Avenue. Transportation Services Staff informed my office in October 2022 that the location is not warranted as per a technical analysis conducted, and that the guard was to be withdrawn at the end of December 2022. While the crossing guard was to be withdrawn at the end of December 2022, my office submitted a letter requesting the placement of a temporary crossing guard for the duration of 2023.
With the crossing guard removed in December 2023, the School Community has continued to expressed serious concerns around this development-maintaining that there are significant safety and design flaws with this intersection, such as insufficient sidewalk width, sightline constraints, to name but a few. Not to mention, the very busy nature of Oriole Parkway and the numerous concerns around speeding and other forms of reckless driver behaviour makes this request an imperative. On behalf of the School Community, I am requesting an override of the technical analysis to keep the guard in place until December 31st, 2024.
