Origin
Summary
I am writing to request your support in implementing a 40 km/h speed limit on Parliament Street between Winchester Street and Gerrard Street East.
At the May 2023 Toronto and East York Community Council meeting, speed limits on minor arterial roads were broadly reduced to 40 km/h. As Parliament Street is a minor arterial road, the intention was it to be reduced to 40 km/h. At the time, the portion between Gerrard Street and Queen Street East was already signed 40 km/h, with the report changing the speed limit between Bloor Street East and Winchester, as well as between Queen and Mill Street to 40 km/h.
Unfortunately, due an oversight, the section between Winchester Street and Gerrard Street East was not included. Without an applicable by-law, the speed limit defaults to the provincial standard of 50 km/h. This motion would therefore correct this error and allow for a consistent 40 km/h speed limit along the entirety of Parliament Street.
