The Toronto and East York Community Council:
1. Overrode the technical analysis and authorized the placement of a temporary School Crossing Guard at the intersection of Oriole Parkway and Gormely Avenue for one year.

Summary
I am writing to respectfully request the placement of a temporary school crossing guard at the intersection of Oriole Parkway and Gormley Avenue. Active Traffic management staff informed my office a few months ago that the location is not warranted as per a technical analysis conducted, and that the guard will be withdrawn at the end of December 2022. The crossing guard has since been withdrawn, and the School Community has expressed serious concerns around this development—highlighting significant safety and design flaws with this intersection, such as insufficient sidewalk width, sightline constraints, to name but a few. Not to mention, the very busy nature of Oriole Parkway and the numerous concerns around speeding and other forms of reckless driver behaviour makes this request an imperative. On behalf of the School Community, I am requesting an override of the technical analysis to keep the guard in place until a safety audit is conducted by the Traffic Operations staff. We anticipate this should be completed within a year.
