The Toronto and East York Community Council:

1. Amended the existing parking prohibition in effect at all times, on the west side of Hendrick Avenue, between the south end of Hendrick Avenue and the first lane south of St. Clair Avenue West to be in effect between Benson Avenue and the first lane south of St. Clair Avenue West.

2. Prohibited stopping to be in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, on the west side of Hendrick Avenue, between the south end of Hendrick Avenue and Benson Avenue.

3. Prohibited parking to be in effect from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. of the next following day, Monday to Friday, and from 4:00 p.m. Friday to 8:00 a.m. of the following Monday, on the west side of Hendrick Avenue, between the south end of Hendrick Avenue and Benson Avenue.

I am writing to respectfully request a "No Stopping" prohibition on Hendrick Avenue south of Benson Avenue, to enhance safety for students at the McMurrich Junior Public School. Over a year ago, a driver hit a 3-year old McMurrich student, while driving a car at the intersection of Benson and Hendrick Avenues. This incident brought to light serious safety flaws at that particular intersection and around the school zone in general. One of the safety issues identified was parents dropping off and picking up their kids on Hendrick Avenue, which is dead end Street, and is not a designated loading area – creating gridlock and causing significant sightline issues for cars reversing. As a result, that strip has become very unsafe for students walking to school through the back entrance, designated only for pedestrians. My office has worked with traffic operations staff in coming up with these recommendations to address this safety issue.
