Summary

Pedestrian safety in neighbourhoods, especially around school zones continues to be a significant issue that my office hears about on a daily basis. Over the last several years, residents and parents whose children attend Seneca Hill Public School have expressed concerns over the speed at which cars travels on Seneca Hill Drive.

Seneca Hill Drive (between Don Mills and Finch Ave) is a curved road without any stop signs or pedestrian crossings for the entire distance. Parents have reported that vehicles often speed through this section and children walking towards the school from the north-west side have to dodge traffic in order to cross to get over to the school. The curved road also contributes to sightline issues, and many parents and other pedestrians have reported near miss accidents with vehicles that speed around the bend and have to abruptly stop for someone crossing the street.

In response to the concerns from parents and the school administration, we are requesting that additional traffic calming measures be installed to improve pedestrian access around Seneca Hill Public School.
