Community Council Decision

North York Community Council:


1. Re-opened Item NY3.10 titled: Melrose Avenue – Traffic Calming.


2. Deleted its prior decision on Item NY3.10 and adopted instead the following:


That North York Community Council:


1. Directed the Director of Traffic Management, Transportation Services, to request the City Clerk to poll eligible householders on Melrose Avenue, between Yonge Street and Jedburgh Road to determine whether residents support the installation of traffic calming, in accordance with the City of Toronto Traffic Calming Policy.


2. Subject to favourable results of the poll:


a. authorized the installation of traffic calming (speed humps) on Melrose Avenue, between Jedburgh Road and Yonge Street.


b. directed the City Solicitor to prepare a by-law to alter sections of the roadway to install 4 speed humps on Melrose Avenue, between Jedburgh Road and Yonge Street, for traffic calming purposes, generally as shown on Attachment 2, drawing number TC-121, dated December 2022, attached to the report entitled "Traffic Calming - Melrose Avenue" from the Director, Traffic Management, Transportation Services.

Summary

On February 22nd, 2023 North York Community Council adopted recommendations from staff to not install speed humps along Melrose Avenue between Yonge Street and Jedburgh Road. The purpose of this motion is to re-examine this study and ask City Staff conduct a poll of eligible householders on this block of Melrose Avenue to see determine if there is support for traffic calming measure to be instated.
