Panel Recommendations

That the Nominating Panel - Corporations recommends that:

 

1. City Council appoint the following candidates to the Seniors Housing Corporation Board, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending July 22, 2025, continuing to serve until successors are appointed:

 

Fareed Amin, as Chair

Linda Jackson

Brenda Parris

Warren Law

 

2. City Council waive Section 2.6 of the Public Appointments Policy concerning restrictions on multiple appointments and appoint Lawrence D'Souza to the Seniors Housing Corporation Board, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending July 22, 2025, continuing to serve until a successor is appointed.

 

3. City Council direct that Confidential Attachments 1 and 2 to the report (May 3, 2023) from the City Clerk remain confidential in their entirety as they relate to personal matters about identifiable individuals being considered for appointment to the Toronto Seniors Housing Corporation Board of Directors.

Fareed Amin, as Chair

 

Over 26 years of public service with the Ontario Public Service (OPS) and the City of Toronto. Served in a number of capacities within the OPS - Assistant Deputy Minister with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transportation; Deputy Minister of a number of ministries, including Municipal Affairs and Housing, Economic Development and Trade; Energy and Infrastructure, Deputy City Manager, City of Toronto with responsibility for City Planning, Water, Solid Waste Management, Building,

 

Lawrence D'Souza

 

Lawrence is a CPA and a Certified Internal Auditor. He brings a diverse set of skills and real-world experience from the private and public sectors in finance, audit, risk management, policy and corporate governance. He holds multiple professional designations and certifications in management, accounting, auditing and risk management. Besides the private sector, he has worked for the Canadian federal and Ontario provincial governments.

 

Linda Jackson

 

Linda is an experienced health care leader and social worker with substantial professional and Board experiences focused in health and community services. Linda is a former Board member of TCHC and has been serving as a Director and Chair of the Quality and Tenant Engagement Committee on the new TSHC Board. Linda has lived experience as a daughter of a previous senior tenant and wants to work to enhance tenant engagements that all tenants have the opportunity to have their voice heard.

 

Brenda Parris

 

Brenda is a respected professional with over 20 years experience in settlement and immigration, services for seniors' and persons with disabilities. Her leadership in workplace diversity and community advocacy provide her with the ability to mediate solutions and 'think outside of the box' for effective solutions. She is recognized as a 'bridge builder', noted for her established leadership qualities, dedication and resourcefulness.

 

Warren Law

 

Warren Law has extensive experience as an expert in governance and regulatory matters, as part of not-for-profit, public and community boards of directors and committees. His work in the Health Care sector was recognized in 2020 by the Governor General of Canada with his being awarded the Sovereign Medal. Mr. Law has been also recognized for his not-for-profit efforts by the Province of Ontario.
