The Infrastructure and Environment Committee:
1. Received the report (November 15, 2023) from the General Manager, Transportation Services, for information.
Origin
Summary
At its meeting of November 8 and 9, 2023, City Council directed the General Manager, Transportation Services to present the list of new priority locations for community safety zones at the next meeting of Infrastructure and Environment Committee.
A framework and expanded criteria for establishing Community Safety Zones outside of School Zones was developed by Transportation Services and adopted by City Council in November 2023.
The new framework will be used to evaluate requests from Councillors for new Community Safety Zone designations outside of school frontages with the goal of enabling future Automated Speed Enforcement implementation at those locations.
Staff are currently reviewing sites for the next mobile Automated Speed Enforcement rotation which is planned for spring 2024. Once the sites have been finalized, a notification will be sent to the respective Councillor’s office as per the established process. Requests from the Councillor, the public and / or the Toronto Police Service are taken into consideration when prioritizing future Automated Speed Enforcement locations.
