Summary

The Budget Committee will hear public presentations on the 2023 Capital and Operating Budgets on January 18, 2023 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Meetings of the Budget Committee to hear Public Presentations on the 2023 Capital and Operating Budgets have been scheduled as follows:

Location:        Committee Room 1, City Hall and by Video Conference

Times:            9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

6:00 p.m. onwards

Individuals may only make one presentation on either January 17 or January 18. Please register to speak by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, January 16. Registered public speakers will be provided with instructions on how to appear at the Committee meeting.

 

The meeting will be streamed live online at toronto.ca/council.

That the Budget Subcommittee receive the public presentations on the 2023 Capital and Operating Budgets for information.


Point of Order by Councillor Alejandra Bravo

Councillor Alejandra Bravo, on a Point of Order, stated that the public speakers should be treated with respect when they are being asked questions, and that the Subcommittee Members were asking a lot of questions of the public speakers.

Ruling by Councillor Frances Nunziata
Chair Frances Nunziata, accepted the Point of Order and ruled that Members of the Subcommittee have a right to ask questions about the budget process.


Point of Order by Councillor Alejandra Bravo

Councillor Alejandra Bravo, on a Point of Order, stated that the Subcommittee Members should not be debating with the public presenters and that the Subcommittee is meeting to listen to the opinions of the public speakers. Councillor Bravo, on a Point of Order, also stated that it was not appropriate for the public gallery to applaud or argue and that all of the participants in the meeting should be treated with respect.

Ruling by Councillor Frances Nunziata
Chair Frances Nunziata ruled that it is the right of the subcommittee to ask questions of the public speakers to clarify their presentations, and also ruled that members of the public should be respectful. Chair Nunziata thanked Councillor Bravo for raising the Point of Order.
