Community Council Decision
The Toronto and East York Community Council:
1. Waived the polling requirement under the City's Traffic Calming Policy and authorized the installation of traffic calming (speed humps) on Burnfield Avenue, between Ossington Avenue and Shaw Street.
2. Directed the City Solicitor to prepare a by-law to alter sections of the roadway on Burnfield Avenue, between Ossington Avenue and Shaw Street, to install three speed humps, generally as shown on the copy of 'Drawing No. 421G-4021' dated May 2022 from the Director, Traffic Management, Transportation Services, attached to the letter (May 26, 2022) from Councillor Mike Layton, Ward 11, University-Rosedale.
Origin
Summary
Residents along Burnfield presented a petition signed in 2021 to my office, motivated to address local traffic safety concerns, requesting the installation of speed humps between Ossington Avenue and Shaw Street.
Given the ongoing increase of developments along Dupont Street, residents have observed an increase in traffic in the area and cut-through traffic into local streets, particularly Burnfield Ave. In an effort to try and help address traffic safety concerns for vulnerable road users along the street, including seniors who walk in the neighbourhood, children who play and cycle, the installation of traffic humps could help mitigate some of the cut-through traffic and create overall safer road conditions.
