Summary

At its September 26, 2006 meeting, City Council authorized the Queen Street East Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Study for Queen Street East, from the Don River to DeGrassi Street.

On March 5, 6 and 7, 2012, Council adopted the document titled "Heritage Conservation
Districts in Toronto: Procedures, Policies and Terms of Reference" which permitted the previously authorized HCD studies including Queen East to be initiated.

Phase I of the study was undertaken in 2015 and subsequently paused due to extenuating factors. In their initial work heritage staff concluded the study area was worthy of Part V designation under the Ontario Heritage Act. They also recommended revising the study area to include several significant properties identified in their early work including the historic Queen Street Viaduct/Riverside Bridge.
