The Toronto and East York Community Council:

1. Requested the General Manager, Transportation Services to immediately review, in consultation with the CEO, TTC and the local Councillor, the pedestrian safety issues at Donlands Avenue and Strathmore Boulevard and if the problem cannot be rectified by noon on February 18, 2022, request the TTC to pay for Traffic Wardens to be assigned to the location; should the request not be granted, to report back to the April 21, 2022 meeting of Toronto and East York Community Council with recommendations to revoke any standing zone and related permissions for TTC vehicles in the area.

2.  Requested the General Manager to review how and why the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and other vehicles were parking on and mounting the sidewalk at the north east corner of Donlands Avenue and Strathmore Boulevard and report to the April 21, 2022 meeting of Toronto and East York Community Council on what might be done to prevent this occurring again at that location or elsewhere.  

A dangerous pedestrian safety issue has developed at Donlands Avenue and Strathmore Boulevard which is next to both Wilkinson Junior Public School and the TTC Second Exit and Easier Access Construction Project at Donlands Subway Station.

Residents have noted many TTC buses and construction vehicles mounting the sidewalk directly adjacent to the school on Strathmore Boulevard. Out of concern for pedestrian safety they have contacted me and the TTC about this on January 25th. The TTC advised over the last 2 weeks they had taken steps to address the matter.  Transportation Services put in pylons at the location to discourage vehicles going on onto the sidewalk.

Alas, the problem persists.  On the Morning of February 14th, two TTC buses were parked on the sidewalk at that location – please see Attachment 1 and 2.  It would seem more stringent measures need to be taken to rectify the problem.
