Summary
I am writing to request your support in authorizing the installation of speed humps on Gormley Ave, between Oriole Parkway and Lascelles Boulevard, to enhance safety on the street.
A preponderance of residents on Gormley Ave petitioned my office for speed humps, as a way of mitigating reckless speeding and irresponsible driver behaviour on their street. A lot of residents have personally recounted "close shaves" with their kids as a result of reckless speeding on Gormley. In addition, adjacent streets to Gormley have speed humps. As such, drivers tend to avoid those streets and instead use Gormley and that comes with the attendant safety hazards.
Traffic Operations staff conducted a traffic study, with all the warrants being met except two. My office has had further consultations with staff, and in view of the urgent safety issues here and the consensus on the street, we have decided to proceed with installation.
