Origin
Summary
Parkland Road is a residential street without sidewalks that runs between Clonmore Drive and Blantyre Avenue. It is heavily used by pedestrians as a route to Blantyre Public School.
Local residents have expressed concerns over the years with regard to traffic and pedestrian safety on this street, especially at the beginning and end of school days. The speed limit will be reduced to 30km/hr in the future, and my office is in the process of investigating the feasibility of sidewalk installation to improve safety. That being said, after meeting onsite with residents, it is clear that the need for effective safety measures is more immediate. Recently there was a near miss when a student stepped out from between 2 parked cars to cross the street. Speed was not a factor, and thankfully she was fine. Transportation staff have suggested that no parking on one side of the street will help to prevent any potential future sightline issue
