Origin
Summary
I would like to share with Toronto City Council the latest Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Report for municipal councils, which is attached.
As a committee member, I am pleased to serve on the Social-Economic Development Standing Committee with Deputy Mayor Ana Bailão and the Municipal Finance and Intergovernmental Arrangements Standing Committee with Councillor Nick Mantas. The City's other members of FCM are Councillors Cynthia Lai, who serves on the Board, and Councillor Brad Bradford and Councillor Anthony Perruzza who sit as committee members.
Thanks to my work with FCM and City staff, FCM has advanced digital affordability advocacy across all municipalities in Canada including a recommendation that the federal government takes a range of measures to improve the affordability of telecommunications services. This issue was heard at the March 2022 Municipal Infrastructure and Transportation Policy Standing Committee and was reported to City Council as part of item EX32.1 ConnectTO Program Update. The attached report notes this item and the full range of items considered at the FCM March 2022 meetings.
The City of Toronto posts the reports on the FCM Board of Directors meetings at https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/accountability-operations-customer-service/city-administration/city-managers-office/intergovernmental-affairs/federation-of-canadian-municipalities-translate/.
The report is also attached.
