The Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee:
1. Expressed its support for the name "Ethennonnhawahstihnen'", and requested the Director, Policy and Strategic Planning, Parks, Forestry and Recreation, to return to the next meeting of the Committee to give the presentation.
Summary
The Director, Policy and Strategic Planning, Parks, Forestry and Recreation, will give a presentation on the Proposed Official Naming of the Recreation Centre at 100 Ethennonnhawahstihnen' Lane.
This presentation will provide an overview of the first City of Toronto community centre and first Toronto Public Library branch to be named by an Indigenous community, and describe the collaborative process between the City of Toronto, Toronto Public Library, and the Huron-Wendat Nation to explore extending the name Ethennonhawastishnen’ to the new facility. It seeks the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee's advice on approaches to support Indigenous placemaking onsite.
