The Toronto and East York Community Council:

1. Waived the polling requirement under the City's Traffic Calming Policy and authorized the installation of traffic calming (speed humps) on Mitchell Avenue between Tecumseth Street and Niagara Street, and request the Acting Director, Traffic Management, Transportation Services, Toronto and East York District to prepare the necessary drawings for implementation of road alterations.
 

2. Requested the General Manager, Transportation Services to:

1. conduct a safety review of the streets and intersections bounded by Fleet Street, Lake Shore Boulevard West, Dan Leckie Way, Queens Quay West, and Stadium Road, including community engagement in consultation with the local ward councillor;
   
   
2. conduct a traffic calming review of Wellington Street West between Strachan Avenue and Niagara Street and develop options, including but not limited to speed humps, for community engagement in consultation with the local ward councillor;
   
   
3. review existing lane widths on Richmond Street West between Spadina Avenue and Brant Street, and apply modified road markings to narrow lanes for traffic calming purposes where possible;
   
   
4. review options for improving the pedestrian realm on McCaul Street between Dundas Street West and Queen Street West, including but not limited to sidewalk expansions and curb lane parkettes, in consultation with OCAD University, local residents, and other stakeholders in consultation with the local ward councillor.

Building streets that are safe for all road users – pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists – is the responsibility of all of us. Every death and injury on our streets is a preventable tragedy.

There are a number of street safety enhancements that local communities in Ward 10 have been working closely with my office on for many years. These initiatives have strong support in local neighbourhoods, and are critical steps to improve safety on our downtown streets.
