Community Council Decision
The Toronto and East York Community Council:
1. Requested the General Manager, Transportation Services to review and to report back on the feasibility of permanently closing Croatia Street, from Brock Avenue to the extension of Pauline Avenue, to vehicular traffic.
Origin
Summary
Residents along Brock Avenue have long been concerned about the level of traffic that flows through this residential area from Dufferin Mall and Dufferin Street. Staff’s most recent counts revealed that over the busiest eight-hour period of a typical weekday (July 2017), approximately 1,300 eastbound motorists entered Croatia Street from Brock Avenue and 600 westbound motorists exited Croatia Street to Brock Avenue. Motorists are currently cutting across Croatia Street to access Bloor Street West via Brock Avenue. As part of the planned redevelopment of 1141 Bloor Street West, Pauline Avenue will be extended (at a new signal), south to Croatia Street from Bloor Street West. Once the new north/south roadway is established, it presents a further opportunity make the area to the east of it safer and more pedestrian friendly by closing a section of roadway. This measure will serve to keep traffic away from neighbourhood area and provide safe crossing for students from the new school being constructed on the northeast corner of Croatia Street and Brock Avenue to the playing field on the southeast corner. For these reasons I am requesting your support to investigate the permanent closure to vehicular traffic of Croatia Street from Brock Avenue to the extension of Pauline Avenue.
