Panel Recommendations

The Corporations Nominating Panel recommends that:

 

1.  City Council appoint the following candidates to the Seniors Housing Corporation Board, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending May 6, 2023, continuing to serve until successors are appointed:

 

Lawrence D'Souza

Linda Jackson

Warren Law

Brenda Parris

Maureen Quigley, as Chair

 

2.  City Council appoint the following two candidates to the Seniors Housing Corporation Board as Tenant Directors, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending May 6, 2023, continuing to serve until successors are appointed:

 

Carrie MacNeil

Jim Meeks

 

3.  City Council direct that Confidential Attachments 1, 2 and 3 to the report (April 8, 2021) from the Interim City Clerk remain confidential in their entirety as they relate to personal matters about identifiable individuals being considered for appointment to the Seniors Housing Corporation Board.

 

4.  City Council direct that the balance of Confidential Attachment 1 to the supplementary report (April 8, 2021) from the Interim City Clerk remain confidential as it relates to personal matters about identifiable individuals being considered for appointment to the Seniors Housing Corporation Board.

Candidates' biographies:

 

Lawrence D'Souza

 

Lawrence, a CPA, brings a diverse set of skills and real-world experience from the private and public sectors in finance, planning, regulatory regimes, audit, accounting, risk management, policy and research, corporate governance, and the knowledge of various federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations. He holds multiple professional designations and certifications in Accounting, Auditing, Management and Risk Management. He has worked for the Canadian federal and Ontario provincial governments.

 

Linda Jackson

 

Linda Jackson is an experienced health care leader and social worker with substantial professional and Board experiences focused in health and community services . Linda has a particular interest in equity informed approaches to her professional and volunteer roles and a commitment to support the creation of  senior friendly health and community services and communities. Linda is a former Board member of TCHC with lived experience as a daughter of a tenant who lived in a TCHC seniors building.

 

Warren Law

 

Mr. Law has devoted considerable time to working on behalf of public institutions having a focus on seniors-related issues. The immediate past Chair of the board of directors at West Park Health Centre, Mr. Law continues to chair the Hospital's committee on Long Term Care issues. Mr. Law has served on boards of directors in various parts of the health care sector and in all his appointments, he has brought a consensus-building, collaborative approach to dealing with key public issues.

 

Carrie MacNeil (Tenant Director)

 

Carrie has senior expertise in HR management, research and organizational communication. She has served as editor and writer for the national scanning publication of a major trade association; conducted communication audits in various Toronto hospitals; and recruited executive staff for associations. She is a founding member of her community's Tenant Association and a 25+ years volunteer assisting women re-entering the workforce following incarceration, domestic violence and addictions.

 

Jim Meeks  (Tenant Director)

 

Jim Meeks has been involved in community building efforts and projects for many years and his skills and experience are a good fit with the mandate of the Seniors Housing Corporation Board. His commitment as a tenant representative helped to build a strong and vibrant community with special focus on security, agency liaison, community animation and harm reduction. He is dedicated to building a legacy of a just, diverse community.

 

Brenda Parris

 

Brenda is a respected professional with over 20 years experience in settlement and immigration, services for seniors' and persons with disabilities. Her leadership in workplace diversity and community advocacy provide her with the ability to mediate solutions and 'think outside of the box' for effective solutions. She is recognized as a 'bridge builder', noted for her established leadership qualities, dedication and resourcefulness.

 

Maureen Quigley, as Chair

 

Maureen Quigley, M.A, ICD.D has held Board leadership positions in national, provincial and community not-for-profit and government agencies and advised many Boards in the Canadian health sector. Seniors housing and support services have been a rewarding part of her Board and professional work during her 45 year career spanning the Government of Ontario, Metropolitan Toronto and as Principal of Maureen Quigley & Associates Inc.  She received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for Community Service in 2012.
