City Council Decision

City Council on February 2, 3 and 5, 2021, adopted the following:

 

1.  City Council request the City Manager to report to the Executive Committee on any possible measures that might be taken by the City of Toronto or other levels of Government and various institutions like the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to stem the growing role that social media platforms and servers have in profiling violence, hatred and intimidation that affect at-risk and vulnerable communities.

That Councillor Mike Colle be permitted to add to the agenda of today's meeting an urgent Motion without Notice concerning: 

  

Request for a report on Possible Actions that can be taken to exploring ways and means to deal with threats of Violence, Intimidation and Hate on Social Media

 

Reason for Urgency:

 

This Motion is urgent as the Lawrence Heights community continues to experience high rates of crime, and social media is one of the tools being used to perpetuate these acts of violence in the community.
