HU7.1 - 2022 Toronto Public Health Operating Budget Request - Additional Information for Discussion

Committee Decision

The Board of Health - Budget Committee recommends that:

 

1.  The Board of Health request the Medical Officer of Health to advocate to Health Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Health for funding for the six 2022 Budget Proposals below, as outlined in the presentation (October 5, 2021) from the Director, Finance and Administration, Toronto Public Health and the Medical Officer of Health, and to report to the December 6, 2021 meeting of the Board of Health on the progress made to secure funding:

 

1.  enhance resources for the Toronto Drug Strategy Secretariat;


2.  enhance programming for The Works;


3.  an expanded Outreach Overdose Team;


4.  expand Injectable Opioid Agonist Treatment (iOAT);

 

5.  enhance data and improve data sharing; and

 

6.  Mobile Consumption Services.

 

2.  The Board of Health request the Medical Officer of Health to report to the December 6, 2021 meeting of the Board of Health on what elements of the six 2022 Budget Proposals in Recommendation 1 above, as outlined in the presentation (October 5, 2021) from the Director, Finance and Administration, Toronto Public Health and the Medical Officer of Health, are recommended to be funded immediately by the City of Toronto in 2022 while funding and reimbursement of costs from other levels of governments is sought.

The Board of Health - Budget Committee:

 

1.  Requested the Medical Officer of Health to incorporate the following in the 2022 Operating Budget Submission for Toronto Public Health for consideration at the October 25, 2021 meeting of the Board of Health:

 

a.  an increase of $9,864.0 thousand gross and $0 net for the operation of the Toronto Voluntary Isolation Centre until December 31, 2022; and

 

b.  funding for the six 2022 Budget Proposals below as potential new and enhanced commitments for Toronto Public Health, as outlined in the presentation (October 5, 2021) from the Director, Finance and Administration, Toronto Public Health and the Medical Officer of Health:

 

1.  enhance resources for the Toronto Drug Strategy Secretariat;


2.  enhance programming for The Works;


3.  an expanded Outreach Overdose Team;


4.  expand Injectable Opioid Agonist Treatment (iOAT);

 

5.  enhance data and improve data sharing; and

 

6.  Mobile Consumption Services.

That:
