Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council:

1. Authorized all-way stop control at the intersection of Rowntree Avenue and Chambers Avenue.

Origin

Summary

Residents contacted my office to request all way stop signs at the intersection of Rowntree Avenue and Chambers Avenue. They reported that the intersection is becoming more dangerous as many drivers are going through local neighbourhoods to avoid congestion along Old Weston Road and Rogers Road, driving fast along these local streets. Unreported accidents and near misses occur regularly. This intersection provides access to General Mercer Jr. Public School outdoors facilities and green space which is enjoyed by the community all year round and there are an increasing number of pedestrians in the area. For these reasons, it has to be as safe as can be. We believe the implementation of this all way stop is part of the solution and I am therefore asking Committee to approve this request.
