Summary

Residents in the Earlscourt and Northcliffe Village neighbourhoods have contacted my office with concerns about speeding on Dufferin Street between Rogers Road and St. Clair Avenue West. Many of our residents need to cross Dufferin Street daily, including children going to and returning from school near Goodwood and Cloverlawn Avenue. Because of high speeds, travelling along Dufferin Street has created unsafe conditions for area residents and disrupted the ability of students to take a safe walking route to school. In the wintertime, the narrowing of sidewalks coupled with an accumulation of snow and ice pose an additional risk to pedestrians. With the support of my office, community members have taken up a petition to have a traffic light installed on Dufferin Street at Goodwood and Cloverlawn Avenue to mitigate these and other safety concerns. I reached out to Traffic Operations and asked them for guidance on these issues and to make recommendations to address them. As a result, and after having consulted with area residents, I am recommending that we move to investigate the feasibility of their request to have a traffic light installed, as outlined below.
