Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council:

1. Reduced the speed limit from 50 km/h to 30 km/h on Peterborough Avenue, between Dufferin Street and Greenlaw Avenue.

Summary

Residents contacted my office seeking to better protect vulnerable road users along Peterborough Avenue where the statutory, unsigned speed limit is currently 50km/h. With Loretto College and Regal Road Junior Public Schools nearby, area youth are frequently crossing Peterborough Avenue and so are neighbourhood children. Vision Zero 2.0 will eventually lower the speed limit on all local residential roads to 30 km/h, however implementation is planned on a ward-by-ward basis over five years starting in 2021. My response to residents is to ensure speed limits are reduced in the requested areas as soon as possible. Hence the purpose of this motion is to reduce the speed limit to 30km/h, along Peterborough Avenue, between Dufferin Street and Greenlaw Avenue.
