Community Council Decision
North York Community Council on December 3, 2020, did not adopt a procedural motion to add this new business item to the agenda for consideration.
Origin
Summary
North York used to be known for its single detached housing neighbourhoods, extensive driveways, lack of sidewalks and car reliant culture. However, over the last two decades urbanization has steadily introduced new vertical residential communities, public transportation investments, new pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, community facilities as well as employment and commercial hubs. North York population's has grown as students move closer to educational facilities, seniors retire to quiet and transit serviced communities, and new families invest on fresh and accessible real estate. As a result parking availability has become an issue around the District.
The Toronto Municipal Code Chapters 918 and 925 do not currently allow applications for parking permits which would allow parking on any portion of a boulevard for residential properties within the majority of the former City of North York. As a result, the majority of North York roads only allow for a 3-hour parking limit, and no overnight parking.
Our office has then received numerous requests to revisit the permit parking restrictions currently present within the District of North York excluded areas, as specified in Section 1, Chapter 925 of the Toronto Municipal Code.
