City Council on June 29 and 30, 2020, adopted the following:
1. City Council request the Government of Ontario to provide offset payments to Landlords to forgive rent for tenants that have qualified for federal income supports during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaker Nunziata advised Council that the provisions of Chapter 27, Council Procedures, require that Motion MM22.20 be referred to the Executive Committee. A two-thirds vote of the Council Members present is required to waive referral.
That City Council delete the recommendation:
Recommendation to be deleted
1. City Council request the Government of Ontario to provide offset payments to Landlords to forgive rent for tenants that have qualified for federal income supports during the COVID-19 pandemic.
and adopt instead the following new recommendation:
1. City Council request the Province of Ontario to make it illegal to evict a tenant for rental arrears accumulated during the pandemic.
