Summary
In response to a request by the Infrastructure and Environment Committee, this report presents a review of the two-year warranty used in the City for road work and the potential for extending the length of the warranty period.
The City of Toronto's general conditions for construction contracts, used for road construction, are derived from the Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS), which stipulates a two-year warranty. This warranty period is consistent across major Ontario jurisdictions consulted in the preparation of this report.
Extending the conventional two year road work guarantee is not being recommended as the costs would be significant and difficult to enforce.
