Etobicoke York Community Council:

1.  Requested the Director, Transportation Services to conduct a study of the use of the pedestrian crossover at Scarlett Road immediately north of Bernice Crescent, once its usage returns to standard levels prior to the reduced number of students attending in-class learning due to COVID-19.

2.   Delayed the removal of the existing pedestrian crossover on Scarlett Road immediately north of Bernice Crescent, until the results of this study are available.

The purpose of this motion is to request a traffic study to determine whether the removal of the pedestrian crossover on Scarlett Road, immediately north or Bernice Crescent, as authorized by City Council, Item EY8.19 (October 2, 2019), is warranted.

City Council authorized the removal of the existing pedestrian crossover on Scarlett Road, north of Bernice Crescent in conjunction with the installation of traffic control signals further north at the intersection of Scarlett Road and Eileen Avenue.

Students from the nearby Lambton Park Community School (located at 50 Bernice Crescent) use the pedestrian crossover, which is located closer to the school than the proposed traffic control signals. Parents of students from Lambton Park Community School and members of the community have expressed concerns regarding the removal of the pedestrian crossover due to the potential of children crossing the road unsafely as the proposed traffic control signal will be located further away from Bernice Crescent.
