Summary

Last year, I received a petition from residents requesting the introduction of a 1 hour parking limit on Edwin Avenue, between Ruskin Avenue and Dupont Street, Monday to Friday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., and the extension of overnight permit parking hours, which currently end at 7:00 a.m., to end at 10 a.m. (Monday to Friday) instead.  Residents submitted this petition because they were finding it difficult to secure on-street parking.

I reviewed the petition in detail and asked Traffic Operations staff to comment on the feasibility of introducing the requested parking regulation changes. City staff did not object to the parking change, but the petition did not demonstrate sufficient support - minimum 60 percent of houses on the street - to introduce the change.

Residents have continued to contact my office regarding parking difficulties.  In response, my office polled Edwin Avenue, between Ruskin Avenue and Dupont Street, in July and August 2019 on the aforementioned changes, and the majority of respondents were supportive.  The purpose of this motion is to have these regulations put in place.
