Summary

The Dundas and Carlaw area is in the midst of a significant transformation.

Community members and stakeholders have been working with me on an initiative to improve the public spaces in an innovative way that highlights the uniqueness of this area, celebrates its rich industrial heritage and enhances the public realm.

This summer Heritage Toronto launched the City's first Heritage Plaque District in the area recognizing 10 properties and their unique industrial heritage.

Landmarks like the Wrigley Building at 235 Carlaw was one of them and they carry on the history of the area both through their current employment uses and the heritage characteristics of the building itself. Adding to its heritage value is the fact that the Wrigley Headquarters in Chicago was demolished, making 235 Carlaw an even greater heritage asset. The Wrigley Building and many of the other buildings in the Carlaw – Dundas area were identified in 2014 as potentially having significant heritage value. I am asking you to support a request for an update on the heritage preservation of the Carlaw – Dundas area.
