Community Council Decision
The Toronto and East York Community Council:
1. Directed Transportation Services, to study and report back on the feasibility of installing traffic control signals along Pape Avenue between Strathcona and Riverdale, as well as, upgrading existing pedestrian crossovers along this segment to traffic control signals, in order to provide opportunities for safe pedestrian crossings to Toronto and East York Community Council at its meeting on September 16, 2019.
2. Requested the Traffic Safety Unit to use a VisionZero lens to evaluate short, medium, and long-term opportunities to slow down the speed of traffic on Pape and consider designating this section of Pape as a Community Safety Zone as there are four schools in the immediate neighbourhood and report to the April 24, 2019 Toronto and East York Community Council meeting.
Origin
Summary
This fall there was a two-car accident near Pape and Bain– ending with a pole being struck and knocked over. While residents were thankful that there were no injuries, many have been in touch with me to say that they are concerned about traffic safety. Back in September I wrote a letter to General Manager of Transportation Services Barbara Gray with a number of requests. Today I am asking the Toronto and East York Community Council to support making this stretch of Pape Avenue safer.
