Community Council Decision
Etobicoke York Community Council:
1. Requested Transportation Services to consider community school status and the presence of Parks, Forestry, and Recreation as a factor in a school's Vision Zero ranking, within the Etobicoke York District.
Origin
Summary
Under the Vision Zero program, City staff ranks TDSB and TCDSB schools in each ward to determine the order of priority that the School Safety Zone program will be implemented. Prior to amalgamation, the City of Etobicoke developed a model of having community schools, rather than recreation centers. These local schools have a formal and permanent relationship with Parks, Forestry, and Recreation, including summer, evening, and weekend programming. Due to the additional presence of children, seniors, and families at these locations, safety risks are greater than at standard schools. Therefore I am requesting staff prioritize community and adapted recreation schools in the ranking for the implementation of the Vision Zero School Safety Zone.
